About a month and a half ago I spent the night at a very beautiful girl's place. First we ate some soup, afterwards we went folk dancing and then we went back to her place to watch Frozen 2. In the movie there is a recurrent phrase 'Water has a memory' which reminded me a lot of the song 'Perfect Life' by Steven Wilson. In this songs the phrase goes: 'Sometimes we would head down to Blackbirds Moor to watch the barges on Grand Union in the twilight
She said, "The water has no memory."'
I was already writing a song in an Arabic-ish scale in the DADGAD tuning on guitar, but a half step down, so C#G#C#F#G#C#. I thought it would be an interesting idea to use the idea of 'water holds a memory' in the song I was writing. The lyrics don't really hold a unique story but are more a poetic way of describing an evolution in one's journey through oneself. Not every song needs to have a grand backstory, some songs and lyrics just sound poetic and bombastic. It's interpretable in any colour you like.
